Sculptor Tim Schmalz

After sculpting exclusively in bronze for large public monuments and hundreds of Christian church commissions, Schmalz continues to work on large scale projects around the world.

Schmalz philosophy on sculpture is simple; work should be beautiful and tell a story of something. Sculpture is a form of communication, just like speech. The power of the sculpture is determined by what is represented, for instance, a great historical event is a subject that will lend itself to becoming a great sculpture.

Schmalz continues to seek powerful, meaningful, subject matter for new creations.

Waterloo Art Council - Schmalz' first sculpture in wood “Ask and Embla” received 1st Place in this annual juried exposition

2006

Creates American Soldiers Memorial – Walkhill, New York
Created the Veterans Memorial – University Ave., Kitchener, Ontario
Created Soldiers Memorial- Blind River, Alaska

2005

Creates 911 Memorial- City Of Kingston, New York

Various sculptures created: Life size bronze Matt Talbot at the Pro Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland and “A Celtic Vision”, an over life size sculpture of St. Patrick in Knock Shrine, County Mayo – Ireland

2004

Creates the Fallen Firefighter Monument for the City of Kitchener firefighters, installed next to Centre in the Square

2003

Life size bronze work, “Whatsoever You Do” created for Santo Spirito Hospital, Rome, Italy

2001

National Mining Monument created for Bell Park in Sudbury, Ontario

1991

Leaves Ontario College of Art and Design to apprentice with sculptors in Toronto

Wins first prize in the National Tea Art Competition sponsored by the Canadian Tea Council of Canada
